I used to walk up and down Sidwell Street quite a lot. I think most people don’t think of Sidwell Street as a beautiful or interesting place. They’d be right about a lot of ot it, but there are some stunning buildings.
The Odeon was the first one that really grabbed me; I love those Art Deco straight lines.
I was also intrigued by the Methodist Church, the permanent Christmas decorations on Kirk’s and the endless barbershops at the bottom of beautiful 3-storey brick buildings.
We so often go about our errands without looking up and appreciating the beauty of the architecture around us. Exeter lost a lot of beautiful buildings in the Blitz, but it still has many to be proud of.
I expanded my series from Sidwell Street and still have more in the works. The more you look, the more you see. Look Up Exeter!
